Average June temps in the High Knob Massif varied from around 70 degrees by day at the summit level to 50s at night ( lower to middle 50s in cooler valleys of middle-upper elevation basins ).
Abundant June rains fell across much of the
High Knob Massif area, but with notable pockets of relative dryness. Extremes varied from 2.00-3.00" in the Duffield Valley, at the far southwestern edge of the massif, to 8.00-10.00" across central-eastern sections of the massif amid communities such as High Chaparral, Robinson Knob, Moore Knob,
Flat Gap, Flatwoods, and the Town of Coeburn.
The City of Norton found itself within a relative dry pocket with 4.08" of June rainfall being nearly an inch below the 5.04" average observed during the past 31 years. This increased the 2014 deficit to -6.28" at the Norton Water Plant.
